SAP calculations are required for residential new build projects, in order to demonstrate compliance with Part L1a (and regional equivalents) of the Building Regulations/ Standards.
Any house builder or developer in the UK looking to build a new home will be asked by Building Control for a SAP Calculation both before (Design Stage) and after (As-Built) a dwelling is built.
Whatever the size of your project, Pearl can provide as built drawings and/or complete your SAP calculations to ensure building compliance and can produce that all important Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).
Part L1a SAP Calculations
Part L of the Building regulations covers guidance for the conservation of fuel and power within existing buildings. However Part L1a exclusively covers the conservation of fuel in power in new dwellings, and Part L1b covers existing dwellings including extensions and conversions.
Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) Calculations, measure the energy efficiency of buildings in compliance with Part L1A of Building Regulations in England and Wales. It is the government-approved method of assessing and measuring the energy rating of any new build residential building.
Different regulations apply in Scotland (Section 6) and Northern Ireland (Part F).
TER and DER Calculations
Through approved SAP software we can determine the Target Emission Rate (TER) and Dwelling Emission Rate (DER) both at design and as-built stage.
The TER is determined from a notional dwelling of the same, shape, size and orientation of the actual dwelling. The DER must be equal to or lower than the TER in order for the property to achieve a PASS from a Building Control Officer or Verifier.
